Kuantan Couple Sells Hampers with a Difference

A Unique Gift for a Special Occasion

Gift hampers bring joy to whomever receives them. But according to Siti Sulekha Zakaria and Rosmani Sapi, those with distinctive contents will make their intended recipient feel even more special.

From Keropok Lekor to Hampers

The husband-and-wife team did not start out selling hampers, unique or otherwise. They used to operate a keropok lekor stall and, once a week, sold baked tamago (Japanese omelette) at a farmers market here to support themselves and their two children, earning about RM3,000 monthly.

A New Opportunity

About eight years ago, they received an offer from the Kuantan city council to relocate to the Bazar Serambi Teruntum Complex. As Siti Sulekha recalled: “My husband and I checked out the location, which was popular with tourists seeking food and craft products as gift items.”

The Birth of Mim Rizqi Enterprise

Their business, Mim Rizqi Enterprise, saw encouraging response there. Then, two years ago, the couple began producing hampers containing food products that are synonymous with the state.

A Different Approach

“We usually see hampers that feature biscuits and fruits. Wanting to offer something different and make recipients feel even more special, we decided to create hampers containing Pahang’s iconic foodstuff.”

Pahang’s Iconic Foodstuff

These include sambal hitam, gula kabung (palm sugar), dodol gula kabung, and keropok keping ikan tamban, as well as chips.

Success Story

Their gift hampers, which are priced at between RM50 and RM300, contain food items that are synonymous with Pahang. This decision has proven fortuitous: their monthly income has increased to five figures, and their annual income boosted by 50%. They see especially brisk business during Aidilfitri.

Orders and Expansion

Each month, Siti Sulekha and Rosmani receive orders for over 80 hampers from individuals, government agencies and private firms. Each hamper is priced between RM50 and RM300, depending on the contents. Customers can choose the products they wish to include, although if the order is large, it will take longer to prepare. According to Siti Sulekha, their suppliers come from Jerantut, Lipis and Pekan, among other locations.

Social Media Promotion

The couple actively promotes their business on Facebook and TikTok.

Conclusion

Siti Sulekha and Rosmani’s decision to create hampers with a difference has paid off, allowing them to increase their income and expand their business. Their unique approach has made them stand out in the market, and their customers appreciate the effort they put into creating special gift hampers.
