Loke Siew Fook: Unsung Heroes Deserve Recognition, Wong Tian Cai’s Datukship Well-Deserved

(Chicha Kong, Jan 24) – In response to the controversy surrounding the Negeri Sembilan DAP’s recommendation of Chicha Kong branch publicity secretary Wong Tian Cai for the “Datuk” honor, DAP Secretary-General and Negeri Sembilan Chairman Loke Siew Fook emphasized that contributions are not limited to those who hold parliamentary or state assembly positions. He stated that unsung heroes working behind the scenes also deserve acknowledgment and recognition.

He said, “Contributions to the party are not solely measured by being elected as MPs or state assembly members. Many unsung heroes who have silently dedicated their efforts behind the scenes are also important pillars of the party and should be acknowledged.”

Wong Tian Cai’s Longtime Contributions to DAP

Wong Tian Cai was recommended and awarded the DBNS “Datuk” title during the Negeri Sembilan Ruler Tuanku Muhriz’s 77th birthday celebration. This move sparked criticism from some party leaders, questioning why a branch publicity secretary could receive such an honor.

Responding to this, Loke Siew Fook, during a festive lighting ceremony at the Chicha Kong community hall last night, pointed out that Wong Tian Cai is not just a branch publicity secretary but also a key figure working tirelessly behind the scenes for the party.

He revealed that Wong is an engineer working in Singapore but has been supporting and assisting the DAP since 1999, especially during the party’s most challenging periods.

“Even while working in Singapore, Wong would always return to help whenever the party needed him. Whether in resources, planning, or practical efforts, he has made significant contributions,” said Loke.

Contributions Beyond Positions

Loke stressed that a person’s contributions should not be judged based on their position alone. He said the DAP recommended Wong because of his years of selfless dedication and loyalty to the party.

He urged party leaders and supporters to view this matter with a more open and inclusive mindset and called for continued support and acknowledgment of those who have worked tirelessly for the party.

“As a political party, we must not only recognize those in the spotlight but also remember the members who have been supporting us from behind the scenes. They are equally crucial to the party’s success.”
