“If you touch and demean (our race and religion), we will fight to the end, regardless of which party you are from.” – Datuk Dr. Akmal Saleh
KUALA LUMPUR, February 3 – Umno Youth Chief, Datuk Dr. Akmal Saleh, has responded strongly to MCA, reminding the party that its presence in Parliament is due to Malay support.
His remarks followed after an MCA vice-president suggested that Dr. Akmal should reflect on why he is disliked by non-Malays. Dr. Akmal made this statement in a Facebook post last night, according to a report from Malaysiakini today.
“Try to reflect, the two seats you won, what kind of constituencies are they? In case you forget, let me remind you,” he said.
While he did not explicitly mention it, both Ayer Hitam and Tanjung Piai — MCA’s only parliamentary seats — are mixed constituencies with a Malay voter majority exceeding 50 percent.
MCA Vice-President, Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, had previously suggested that Dr. Akmal is viewed negatively because he frequently offends non-Malays.
In response, the Umno Youth Chief dismissed claims that his actions were merely for attention.
**”We defend our religion and race not because we want to be liked, but because it is our responsibility to defend the sanctity of our religion and race.
“If you touch and demean (our race and religion), we will fight to the end, regardless of which party you are from,” he stressed.
