Malaysia Cup Match: JDT Defeats KL Rovers 3-0
In the first leg of the 2024/2025 Malaysia Cup round of 16 match, defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) defeated Kuala Lumpur Rovers 3-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.
Hat-Trick Hero
JDT’s Brazilian import striker Heberty Fernandes played a crucial role in the match, scoring a hat-trick to help his team secure a comfortable victory. Heberty’s first goal came in the 26th minute through a free kick, and he added another goal three minutes later thanks to Corbin Ong’s pass. His third goal came in the 71st minute with a long-range shot.
Clean Sheet
KL Rovers had a chance to score a consolation goal through Muhammad Izreen’s attempt in the penalty box, but was saved by JDT’s goalkeeper Christian Abad Amat, ensuring a clean sheet for the defending champions.
Suspended Player
Arif Aiman Hanapi, a key player for JDT, was absent from the match due to a three-match suspension for his involvement in a ‘footbrawl’ with Tommy Mawat in the Super League match against Perak FC on November 10.
Match Venue
The venue for the inaugural Malaysia Cup 2024/25 match was initially supposed to be the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras, but was changed to the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium upon a request by KL Rovers.
Next Match
The return leg of the match is scheduled to take place at the same venue on November 30. Meanwhile, Penang will host Kuching City at the City Stadium in Penang in another Malaysia Cup action tomorrow.
