Support Local Ramadan Bazaars, Avoid Sungai Golok

Government’s Cautionary Warning

Following the recent bomb blast in southern Thailand, the government has urged Malaysians to prioritize their personal safety and avoid visiting Sungai Golok, a popular destination for iftar delicacies. This warning comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the well-being of all citizens, particularly those living in border areas.

Menteri Besar’s Advice

Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassurudin Daud emphasized that there is no need to take risks to buy iftar delicacies in Sungai Golok when local Ramadan bazaars in Kelantan offer a wide range of delicious food, including dishes with Thai cuisine. "Kelantan itself has various Ramadan bazaars with dishes that are no less spectacular," he said. "There is no need to go to Sungai Golok in such a situation when we can support local traders in our own state."

No Malaysians Involved in the Incident

On March 8, Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed that no Malaysians were involved in the shooting and bomb explosion incident in Sungai Golok. The Thai police reported that an explosion occurred at a security post outside the Sungai Golok District Office, followed by several shots fired by a group of attackers, killing two Thai security personnel and wounding eight others.

Police Monitoring Developments

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain assured that the police are constantly monitoring developments in Narathiwat province and have enforced strict control to ensure public safety until the situation is confirmed to be safe.

Ministry’s Advisory

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked Malaysians to postpone non-essential visits to Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani in Thailand for the time being. Those traveling or residing in the region are advised to be cautious and vigilant.

EDOTCOM’s Support

At the recent Ihya Ramadan Ceremony and Handover of Wakalah Zakat Funds, EDOTCOM Malaysia donated laptops and sponsored the school computer lab refurbishment project at a cost of RM70,000.

In light of the recent events, it is crucial for Malaysians to prioritize their personal safety and well-being. By supporting local Ramadan bazaars and avoiding Sungai Golok, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable Ramadan season.
