Kuala Lumpur: The police have confirmed that the marriage certificate of a Cabinet minister’s child is legitimate following their wedding in a neighboring country last September.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, explained that investigations revealed the marriage was valid, and although the couple initially faced obstacles in getting married, they eventually tied the knot abroad. However, the marriage was concealed from their close friends.
“When such an issue arises, even their own friends didn’t know about it… they didn’t want to make it public because they were worried that their families would feel hurt,” he said to the media after attending the Appreciation Ceremony for the Inspector-General of Police with Noble and Gentleman Officers at Pulapol today.
The investigation file for the criminal intimidation case involving the minister’s child has been completed and submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) in Penang on January 6, for further action according to existing legal provisions.
Earlier, media reports had highlighted a criminal intimidation case involving the minister’s child, which went viral on social media. A woman reportedly received threats from the minister’s child after asking him to take responsibility. The incident occurred in a house in Butterworth on December 24 last year.
The investigation is currently being conducted under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
