The Bukit Teratai Toll Plaza, located along the SUKE (Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway), has once again come under scrutiny for poor management that inconveniences road users. This issue has sparked frustration among highway users, particularly due to the lack of Touch ‘n Go top-up facilities at the toll lanes.
The 24.4km SUKE expressway, built at a cost of RM5.3 billion, began operations in phases on September 16, 2022 (Phase 1), and June 16, 2023 (Phase 2). Despite being known for its innovative features, such as the helix ramp, basic management issues like top-up facilities overshadow its achievements.
In a recent incident, motorists with insufficient balance were instructed to stop by the roadside and walk 150 meters to the top-up counter. This action not only endangers the drivers but also increases the risk of accidents.
A witness commended the politeness of the toll operator, a Malay woman, and the security guard, an Indian man, for handling the situation patiently. However, the lack of clear directives from higher management has led to recurring issues.
The public has begun questioning why a toll plaza generating millions in revenue cannot provide a functioning top-up counter. This criticism is also tied to the government’s unfulfilled promise to abolish tolls, a topic that remains unresolved.
It is hoped that Prolintas, as the largest highway operator in the Klang Valley, will take immediate action to address these issues to ensure the safety and convenience of highway users.
