Sabah FC Retains Coaching Staff, No New Head Coach Appointed
Sabah FC has decided to retain its existing coaching staff, with no new appointments made to fill the vacancy of Head Coach this season, following the departure of Datuk Ong Kim Swee, whose contract ended on November 30.
Sabah FC team manager Rafie Robert announced the decision, saying that the management and members of the Sabah Football Association (SAFA) Supreme Council had unanimously agreed on the decision.
"The existing coaching staff have understood the training pattern and tactics when working with Kim Swee. We are confident that the existing players are already compatible with the approach applied by coach Kim Swee and are trying to maintain the momentum that has been introduced for a long time," Rafie said in a statement.
He emphasized that the key focus at this time is on ensuring that all players are prepared to meet the targets set by the management and achieve success in the future. "What is important at this time is that all players need to be prepared for their duties by ensuring that the targets set by the management can be realised in the future," he said.
Rafie added that the team does not want to disturb what has been implemented so far, as any changes would take time for the players to adopt and apply. "We want all parties, including the players, to undergo the training process as usual, focus and be able to maintain the momentum of victory. We don’t want them to be affected by the drastic changes made if they need a coach in the near future," he said.
The team’s current coaching staff, which includes Mohammad Faisal Ahmad as assistant head coach, Irwan Jamil as goalkeeper coach, and Martin Stano as fitness coach, will continue to lead the team in the upcoming Malaysia Cup and Super League matches.
Rafie acknowledged that Kim Swee’s departure was a significant loss for the team, but expressed confidence that the existing coaching staff could continue to guide the team to success. "However, we should not stop there, but continue to work with the existing coaching staff to continue training sessions to face the Malaysia Cup and Super League matches," he said.
Conclusion
Sabah FC’s decision to retain its existing coaching staff is a strategic move to maintain continuity and consistency in the team’s performance. By not introducing new coaches, the team can avoid the disruptions and adjustments that would come with a new coaching staff, allowing them to focus on achieving their goals in the upcoming competitions.
