"At the 2016 SEA Games in the Philippines, I won bronze, and then a silver at the 2022 edition in Vietnam. This time, if possible, I want the gold – it’s been a long-standing dream," she said when contacted by Bernama.

Nur Amisha acknowledged that the competition in the 48kg category won’t be easy, with many strong contenders vying for the top spot. However, she is eager to challenge herself and take on the challenge.

"The competition won’t be easy as there are many strong contenders in that category, but I want to challenge myself," she said.

Nur Amisha emphasized that the final decision to compete in the 48kg category lies with the national Muay Thai association, who will decide whether to grant her permission for the switch.

The 23-year-old athlete plans to use the next few months to prepare for the competition, including participating in the Asian Muay Thai Championships in Vietnam this June before competing in Bangkok.

The national Muay Thai camp had a successful outing at the previous edition of the SEA Games in Vietnam, clinching one gold and one silver medal. The gold medal was won by Ahmad Nor Iman Aliff Rakib in the men’s under-54kg category.
