Olympic Council of Asia’s Development Programme for Coaches and Referees Kicks Off in Malaysia

The third stage of the Olympic Council of Asia’s (OCA) Development Programme for Coaches and Referees is set to kick off in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 27 to December 1. A total of 111 representatives from 19 National Olympic Committees (NOC) in Southeast Asia and East Asia will participate in the five-day camp.

Objective

The programme, according to OCA’s Director of Development and NOC Relations Wissam Trkmani, aims to brief coaches and referees on key issues in the Olympic movement. The camp will focus on archery, badminton, table tennis, and swimming.

Practical and Theoretical Sessions

Trkmani explained that the participants will be taught both practical and theoretical sessions in coaching and refereeing, including presentations from experts in various fields that are becoming increasingly important in the modern-day Olympic movement. These fields include Olympic values, safeguarding, the prevention of competition manipulation, and anti-doping.

Aim

The ultimate aim is for the participants to return to their home countries and apply what they have learned for the betterment of their sport and their athletes in all aspects.

Trkmani expressed his gratitude to the Olympic Council of Malaysia’s President, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, for fully supporting the event. He praised Malaysia’s well-prepared and complete facilities, making it an ideal location for the final stage of the programme.

OCA’s Previous Stages

The OCA has organized the first stage for West Asia in Kuwait and the second stage in Uzbekistan for Central and South Asia.
