ALOR SETAR: The flood disaster in the state has also affected the official residence of the Menteri Besar (MB) of Kedah at Seri Mentaloon, causing it to be submerged by water due to the overflow of the Anak Bukit River.
The Special Media Officer to the Menteri Besar, Helmi Khalid, stated that the water overflowed from the river behind Seri Mentaloon early this morning and began entering the staff quarters located near the riverbank.
“The water level continued to rise and eventually entered the living room, kitchen, and dining area of the official residence. So far, the water level in the kitchen has reached 0.5 meters,” he said when contacted here tonight.
Helmi added that, at the moment, the Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, and his family are still staying at the two-story residence.
He mentioned that the floodwaters have not affected the surau (prayer hall), Dewan Melur, and Dewan Seri Mentaloon, which are located within the grounds of the official residence.
“This is not the first time Seri Mentaloon has been flooded as it had also been affected during the major flood in 2010. The flood in September also caused water to enter the official residence, but this time the situation is worse,” he explained.
For the record, the official residence is located less than 100 meters from the banks of the Anak Bukit River.
Meanwhile, an inspection in the nearby area found that residents had begun parking their vehicles along the main road due to the flood, with the main road also being affected.
