PETALING JAYA: Only administrative and commercial negotiations remain unresolved in talks between Petronas and Sarawak’s Petros, which are expected to conclude soon, says deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof.
Although no timeframe has been set, the government hopes the negotiations can be concluded quickly to facilitate investment and business operations both offshore and onshore.
“That is what we want to expedite because it will make it easier for industry players to carry out their daily activities,” The Borneo Post reported him as saying in Kuching today.
Fadillah was responding to law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said, who said in Parliament yesterday that Petronas and Petros have yet to finalise the terms and mechanisms for the implementation of the joint declaration on gas distribution, even though nearly three months have passed since it was signed.
Azalina said both parties were still discussing details of the cooperation framework based on agreed principles, in line with commercial considerations.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg signed a joint declaration in May, forming the basis for cooperation between Petronas and Petros.
Petros was appointed as the gas aggregator for Sarawak’s domestic market from March 1.
