PETALING JAYA: A pedestrian who fell into a river after being hit by a car that veered off the road along Jalan Ipoh was found drowned this morning.
Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Zamzuri Isa said the man’s body was discovered by rescue personnel at 7.30am today, about 150m from the accident site, Sinar Harian reported.
He said the victim’s identity has yet to be confirmed and the body has been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensic unit for a post-mortem.
“Further investigations into the crash are ongoing.”
Police have reclassified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police said initial investigations found the car driven by a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man lost control while heading towards the Kepong roundabout and collided with another car driven by a 43-year-old Vietnamese woman.
The first car then struck a pedestrian before plunging under a bridge and getting caught between concrete structures and iron pipes.
The driver sustained injuries and was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
