Police Busted Drug Trafficking Syndicate in Seberang Perai Utara
Operation Details
A joint operation by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of the Penang police headquarters led to the arrest of five men and the confiscation of over 12 kg of heroin worth RM124,550 in two raids in Seberang Perai Utara between 1 pm yesterday and 4 am today.
First Raid
The first raid took place at a livestock breeding area in Tasek Gelugor, where police arrested two local men and a foreign national. During the raid, police found 22 transparent plastic packets containing powder and white and yellow lumps of suspected heroin weighing 10.025 kg worth RM96,250.
Second Raid
The second raid was carried out at a room in the Mak Mandin area, where police arrested two more local men. The suspects led police to the location, where they confiscated seven transparent plastic packets containing powder and white and yellow lumps suspected to be heroin weighing 2.95 kg worth RM28,300. This brought the total amount of drugs seized to 12.975 kg worth RM124,550.
Seized Items
In addition to the large quantity of drugs, police also seized three cars, two motorcycles, five necklaces, four rings, two earrings, and RM2,500 in cash, with a total value of RM311,363.40.
Police Intelligence
According to police intelligence, the syndicate has been active in drug trafficking since the middle of last year.
Urine Screening Results
A urine screening also revealed that one of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, while four suspects had records related to criminal and drug offences.
Remand
All five suspects, aged between 21 and 42, were remanded for six days until January 15 for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
