PKR Adopts Blockchain Technology for Secure and Transparent Elections

PKR has made history by becoming the first political party in Malaysia to adopt blockchain technology for its electronic voting system. This innovative move ensures greater transparency and integrity in the party’s internal elections.

Two-Step Verification Process

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh explained that the party has introduced a two-step verification process to ensure transparency. The first step involves electronic ‘know your customer’ (eKYC) verification, which confirms the identity of the party member before they register for e-voting.

Blockchain Technology

The second step is e-voting using blockchain technology, where the ID of each registered voter is encrypted and unique. This ensures no unauthorized votes can be cast, as an encrypted ID cannot be duplicated. Fuziah emphasized that these measures would guarantee free and fair party elections and uphold the integrity of the results.

Election Schedule

PKR will hold elections for its division and central committee leadership in April and May. The election of committee members, and women and youth wing leaders at the division level will be held from April 11 to 20. Nominations will take place between March 14 and 16. The election of the central leadership committee, and women and youth wing leaders at the national level will be held on May 24. Nominations will take place on May 3 and 4.

Current Office-Bearers

The current office-bearers have been serving in their positions since May 29, 2022. Those elected in the coming elections will serve for a three-year term until 2028.

Conclusion

PKR’s adoption of blockchain technology for its electronic voting system is a significant step towards ensuring the integrity and transparency of its internal elections. This innovative approach will provide a secure and tamper-proof voting process, giving party members confidence in the results.
