KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) —Â Syed Azmir Syed Ahmad, President of the Perlis Sepaktakraw Association (PSTPs), has announced his intention to contest the Presidency of the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) at the governing body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 29.
In a statement today, PSTPs indicated that they believe it’s time for Syed Azmir to vie for the top position, given his extensive experience and capabilities, having been actively involved in sepaktakraw sports management since 1995.
“He has also been active in PSM since 2006, leading the Perlis Sepaktakraw Association (PSTPs) as Honorary Secretary until 2010. On April 30, 2025, he successfully assumed the role of PSTPs President for the 2025 to 2027 term.
“This opens the door for him to contest the number one position in PSM. Based on his long-standing experience and involvement in sepaktakraw, PSTPs is confident that he can shoulder this responsibility if given the opportunity to occupy the top seat of PSM,” the statement read today.
In the same statement, PSTPs also clarified that Syed Azmir might make an U-turn from contesting the PSM presidency if the current incumbent, Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, announces his candidacy at the upcoming AGM.
“The PSTPs President will then shift to contest the position of PSM Deputy President. He is fully confident that he will receive support from those who desire change in terms of providing ample space for the proliferation of ideas and constructive criticism within a more professional PSM management,” it said.
