PETALING JAYA: The communications ministry has denied claims that a K-pop concert scheduled for June 14 was cancelled due to a lack of approval from the authorities.

The ministry said its central committee for applications for filming and performances by foreign artistes (Puspal) had granted pre-approval for “K-Pop Big 2 Super Concert: (G)I-DLE & BamBam Live in Malaysia” on April 28.

“The decision to cancel the concert was made by the organisers, taking into account various justifications and the interests of all parties involved,” it said in a statement today.

“Organisers are required to make thorough preparations, including securing early approvals from relevant stakeholders, before organising a concert involving high-profile international artistes, as stipulated in the Puspal guidelines.”

The concert, scheduled to take place at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, would have featured the popular South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE and GOT7 member BamBam.

However, Live Universe Sdn Bhd had announced in a Facebook post on Monday that the concert was cancelled due to regulatory issues.

The organisers maintained that all requirements had been fulfilled but that, despite their efforts, their concert permit application was not approved.
