Kuala Lumpur: The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, has urged the public to refrain from participating in any gatherings related to the issue of pardoning prisoners or reducing sentences.
He emphasized that the power of pardons or sentence reductions is the prerogative of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as outlined in Articles 42(1) and (2) of the Federal Constitution. All pardons must go through the Pardons Board and not through unlawful assemblies or any channels that violate the law.
“Any unlawful assembly will only disrupt public order, and stern action will be taken against those involved. Everyone must understand that the law is the foundation of the nation’s stability,” he said in a statement today.
Tan Sri Razarudin further stressed that participating in an assembly related to the issue of prisoner pardons would seem disrespectful to the King’s command.
“Every Malaysian citizen must uphold the principles of the Rukun Negara, especially the sovereignty of the law and the values of decency and morality, which are fundamental to the nation’s prosperity. The process of pardon is a legitimate legal mechanism and must be respected,” he added.
He called on all Malaysians to work together to ensure the country’s harmony and stability by adhering to the law.
