KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) –Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim have successfully completed the gruelling 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps endurance race in Belgium with Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR).

The royal duo, the sons of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, alongside British driver Alexander Sims and Australian Jordan Love who drove the team’s Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R crossed the finish line 12th in the Bronze Cup class and 43rd overall out of a 74-car field.

Despite a difficult start after a mechanical issue forced them to begin from the pit lane and six laps down, the team staged a remarkable comeback over the 24-hour race completing 527 laps and 27 pit stops at the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

Tunku Abdul Rahman said the result reflected the team’s determination and growth.

“Completing the 24 Hours feels great and it’s not an easy thing to do. We had some hurdles at the beginning, but I’m extremely proud of the team for staying focused and working around the clock.

“It was our first time here with the Corvette, and seeing both cars finish is a proud moment,” he said in a statement by JMR today.

He added that the team is now shifting its focus to the GT World Challenge Asia in Japan next month, with the aim of maintaining their lead in the Pro-Am standings.

Meanwhile, Tunku Abu Bakar said the endurance race provided a valuable learning experience for the team and highlighted the importance of developing local motorsports talent.

“This is our first year running as an independent team, and we’re proud to have Malaysian crew members with us. We want to give more opportunities to people back home and help them reach the international stage with us.

“It’s not just about finishing on the podium, it’s about bringing everyone along on the journey,” he said.

JMR will return to action at Fuji Speedway, Japan, from July 11 to 13 for rounds seven and eight of the GT World Challenge Asia.
