‘Sergeant Scammer’ Makes Video Call

Must Read

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has clarified that it never makes video calls to any complainants, refuting claims made in a viral video involving an individual impersonating a police officer. The incident reportedly took place against the backdrop of the Perlis Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) yesterday.

In an official statement, PDRM emphasized that such actions are a fraudulent attempt that could tarnish the image of the police force and mislead the public. “We want to stress that there is no official procedure that allows police officers to contact complainants via video call. All official matters must be conducted in person at a police station or through designated official channels,” said a PDRM spokesperson.

The viral video shows a man dressed in a police uniform introducing himself as a “Sergeant” and requesting personal information from the victim. The suspect is seen using the Perlis IPK as a background to make his actions appear legitimate.

The public is urged to be vigilant against this new modus operandi, believed to be aimed at stealing personal information or money. PDRM also calls on victims to report such incidents immediately to the authorities for further action.

This case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. If found guilty, the offender could face up to 10 years in prison, whipping, and a fine.

PDRM also urges the public not to fall for suspicious calls or messages claiming to be from any government agency. Any information or complaints can be directed to the official PDRM hotline or the nearest police station.
