Shah Alam, 24 April – Taman Sri Muda is no longer just a symbol of public suffering due to flooding; it is now seen as a potential political graveyard for Pakatan Harapan, as public trust continues to erode. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is under heavy criticism from local residents and netizens for his failure to resolve the recurring flood crisis, with many comparing him to a “child unfit to lead a state as great as Selangor.”
Dato G Kumaar Aamaann, Chief Editor of Ottrangknews and a well-known community activist, stressed that the flood issue should have been resolved long ago, not only after the public took to the streets.
> “A cow is held by a rope, a man by his promise. When promises are broken, trust is lost. This is not just about politics — it is about the dignity of governance,” he said in a press statement.
He condemned the state government for only taking action after the public demonstration on 20 April, which saw over 1,500 residents participating. He added that a Menteri Besar should act as a protector of the people, not as someone who reacts only under pressure.
Residents also voiced their disappointment that the pump station only resumed operation last week, following TNB’s resolution of an electrical issue — something they claimed should have been addressed much earlier.
“The People Are Not Stupid, The People Are Aware”
On social media, the sentiment against Pakatan Harapan is becoming increasingly obvious.
> “Enough with the lies. When it floods, they issue media statements. When the heat comes, they go silent. We’ve suffered enough,” expressed a Facebook user.
Political observers now predict that failure to resolve the issue could have major consequences for Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming state election.
> “Sri Muda could mark the end of public trust in the current administration. It could become their political graveyard,” said one analyst.
Dato G also proposed that the State Government take more aggressive and transparent action by establishing a community-led flood monitoring unit. This, he said, would ensure consistent monitoring without complete reliance on local authorities (PBT).
> “Don’t wait for the people to grow weary before you act. If this continues, not only will the people turn away, but history will mark Sri Muda as the place where Pakatan Harapan’s trust crumbled,” Dato G warned firmly.
