Triathletes from 50 Countries to Take Part in Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 Championships
Langkawi, Oct 10, 2024 – A massive response of 1,800 aspiring triathletes from more than 50 countries will push their limits to the ultimate test at the 2024 Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 Championships in Langkawi this Saturday.
The event, which has attracted a record-breaking number of participants, will feature professional triathletes, Ironkids, and groups competing in the grueling triathlon disciplines, including swimming, cycling, and running.
A Platform for Aspiring Triathletes
According to Ironman Group Asia regional director C.G. Lim, this year’s competition has received the highest number of professional participants to date, with a total of 60 triathletes taking part. "This year, the response from professional triathletes, Ironkids, and groups for Ironman 70.3 was incredible. Actually, there are many who want to participate in this tournament but are unsure that they can become an Ironman finisher over the full course of swimming, cycling, and running, so this is one of the platforms to give exposure to them," Lim said during a press conference.
Improved Safety Measures
In addition, Lim highlighted that significant improvements have been made to the safety aspects of the event, particularly in the swimming discipline, where over nine security agencies are involved to ensure that no incidents occur at this year’s tournament. "This year, we have also improved from the safety aspects, especially for the swimming discipline, where more than nine security agencies are involved to ensure that no incidents occur at this year’s tournament," he said.
A Challenge for Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman
One of the participants in the event is none other than Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, 31, who is also a former Minister of Youth and Sports. This is his first time participating in Ironman Malaysia, and he is determined to finish the course in a good time. "I don’t have a strong physique, but I want to prove that with discipline and desire, I too can be an Ironman finisher," he said.
Preparation and Priorities
Saddiq, who trains both physically and mentally to prepare for the event, emphasized that he does not neglect his work as a Member of Parliament and in Muar, the permanent area he looks after. "I train morning and night physically and mentally in preparation to face any situation later but at the same time, I don’t neglect the essential work of serving in Parliament and Muar, the permanent area which I look after," he said.
