Malaysia’s National Paddlers Poised for Strong Show in 2025 SEA Games
Kuala Lumpur, Feb 19 (Bernama) – National paddlers are expected to serve up a strong show in the upcoming 2025 SEA Games to be held in Thailand from Dec 9-20.
Optimism Abounds
With renewed hope and hunger for success, national coach Beh Lee Wei believes that her charges are poised to show significant improvement than the previous edition in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Lee Wei’s optimism stems from Malaysia’s wonderful feat of being crowned as the overall champions for the first time ever in the South-East Asian (SEA) Championships in Bangkok, last November.
"Yes, the (SEA Championships performance) will certainly motivate our players in the 2025 SEA Games. Even though Singapore and Thailand did not send their strong squads but I can saw my players showing a huge improvement in their game," she told Bernama when contacted.
Best-Ever Performance
Malaysia came home after sweeping five of the seven gold contested in the SEA Championships as well as two silver and four bronze medals, their best-ever performance at the tournament. This was a sharp contrast as compared to their achievement of just one silver and two bronze medals during the 2022 edition in Bangkok.

During the 2023 SEA Games, Malaysia only managed to clinch three silver and two bronze medals.
However, Lee Wei is confident that her team will field a competitive squad in a bid to challenge the dominance of Singapore and Thailand in the 2025 SEA Games. As such, the coaching team has laid out a comprehensive plan, including sending the paddlers to compete in international competitions and for training abroad, with focus on Asian countries as their primary training base.
