GRS Deputy Secretary-General Encourages Parties to Cooperate Ahead of Sabah State Elections
Electoral Cooperation Not Limited to State Elections
GRS deputy secretary-general Armizan Mohd Ali has said that any party wishing to cooperate with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) need not wait for the next Sabah state assembly elections to be called. According to Armizan, parties can begin forming alliances now, ahead of the state elections expected next year.
“There is still a year left, so work with the government now. Show your sincerity,” Armizan said after a visit to Kampung Suangon in PAPAR today.
Decision on Electoral Cooperation to be Made by GRS Supreme Council
Armizan emphasized that any electoral cooperation with other parties will be decided by the GRS Supreme Council after taking into account the views of all parties involved in the coalition. The GRS alliance comprises Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Maju Sabah, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), Usno, Harapan Rakyat, the Liberal Democratic Party, and Parti Cinta Sabah.
GRS Chairman to Set Up Committee to Discuss Elections
On Monday, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor announced that a committee would be set up to discuss the elections with partners and allies, particularly Pakatan Harapan (PH). This move comes as both Barisan Nasional (BN) and GRS have expressed their willingness to work with PH.
Local Parties’ Stance on Electoral Cooperation
However, not all parties are on the same page. STAR and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) have emphasized the importance of local parties dominating the state government. Warisan has also stated that it is open to working with local parties.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Armizan’s statement encourages parties to begin forming alliances now, ahead of the state elections expected next year. The decision on electoral cooperation will be made by the GRS Supreme Council after taking into account the views of all parties involved in the coalition.
