Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin, is being urged to intervene in a case involving an Ayurveda practitioner falsely claiming to be a doctor and using the honorary title “Dato’ Seri.” The practitioner has been accused of causing the death of a chronic kidney disease patient in 2022.
Unrecognized Treatment Leads to Death
The patient, who underwent six months of treatment with unlabelled and unrecognized medication from the Ministry of Health (MOH), passed away in August 2022. The practitioner allegedly instructed the patient to stop modern medical treatment entirely.
The deceased’s daughter, who lodged a police report in Puchong yesterday, claimed her family spent over RM10,000 on the treatment.
Criticism of Police Response
The victim’s family expressed frustration when a police officer suggested they take the matter to court instead of pursuing immediate action against the practitioner. “Is this how the police serve the public? We want justice for our mother,” said the daughter of the deceased.
Fake Practitioner Expands Operations
Despite the report, the practitioner has reportedly expanded their business, opening more branches in states such as Selangor, Johor, Perak, and Penang.
Call for Tan Sri Razarudin to Take Decisive Action
The case has sparked demands for Tan Sri Razarudin to direct a thorough investigation into the practitioner, including:
1. Verification of Qualifications and Operating Licenses
2. Enforcement Against Misuse of Honorary Titles
3. Suspension of Operations Until Investigations are Complete
