KUALA TERENGGANU, June 12 (Bernama) — Terengganu FC (TFC) will only use a maximum of four import players to face the Malaysia League (M-League) competition in the 2025/2026 season.
Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd (TFCSB) board of directors member Mohd Fadhli Rahmi Zulkifli stated that this decision was due to the club’s financial constraints and to provide more opportunities for local players to play.
He said the Kuala Nerus-based club already has a shortlist of potential import players, but further discussions are needed to determine other matters such as the preferred playing positions.
“We have to reduce the number of imports this season because of financial factors…the cost is very high. Moreover, we want to give local players the opportunity to play. Rather than paying a high price for imported players, it is better to hire local footballers of comparable quality,” he said at the Sepaktakraw Player Introduction and Sponsorship ceremony for the 2025 Sepak Takraw League (STL) here this evening.
Last season, the Turtles squad, which finished fifth in the 2024/2025 Super League, used the services of six imports.
Of the six, only Uzbekistan-born player Nurillo Tukhtasinov has been retained while the other five were dropped due to performance and high salaries.
