TNM Hidden Cafe: A Taste of India in the Heart of KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Every time a customer’s face lit up after sipping her tea or tasting her food, Dhivya Sree of "The New Madras" was convinced she was onto something.

The Passion Behind the Food

Dhivya’s passion for Indian street food began with her import business of Ayurvedic cosmetics from Kerala. Her frequent travels to Chennai led her to fall in love with the street food, and she wanted to share that experience with Malaysians. She started her first food stall, The New Madras, in Kampung Kasipillay along Jalan Ipoh in 2023.

The Birth of TNM Hidden Cafe

After the success of her stall, Dhivya decided to open a brick-and-mortar branch in Brickfields, aptly named TNM Hidden Cafe. The café is tucked away at the back of a gadget and vape shop, opposite NU Sentral and just a stone’s throw from Little India.

Menu Highlights

The menu at TNM Hidden Cafe is an exciting mix of classic Indian street food and Dhivya’s own creative twists. Some of the top sellers include:

  • The rosemilk bun, a nostalgic and indulgent treat made with condensed milk mixed with rose syrup
  • The super affordable briyani, a generous portion of flavourful biryani rice, tender chicken, a boiled egg, and raita, all for just RM8.90
  • The tea, served in the quintessential small tea glasses Indian roadside stalls use, made with fresh cow’s milk, and perfectly balanced between milky and strong

The Café’s Charm

The café’s cosy atmosphere and lively energy make it a popular spot for customers. With food this good and affordable, it’s no surprise that it’s always buzzing with customers. As Dhivya puts it, "If you love tea and Indian street food, you need to come here at least once. You won’t find some of our menu items anywhere else. Try it, you’ll love it."

The Future of TNM Hidden Cafe

Dhivya is already planning to expand to other states and take her brand international. For now, she’s focused on making TNM Hidden Cafe the best it can be. With its unique menu and charming atmosphere, it’s a must-visit spot for anyone who loves Indian street food.
