“The Justice System Can Make Mistakes That Destroy Lives” A Call to Improve the Justice System: Lessons from the Iwao Hakamada Case

Must Read

By: Dato G Kumaar Aamaan, Chief Editor & Activist

Tokyo, March 26 – A Japanese man, Iwao Hakamada, who was once the world’s longest-serving death row prisoner, has received 217,362,500 yen (approximately RM6.4 million) in compensation after being wrongfully convicted. This decision has shed light on the suffering of individuals who fall victim to injustice within the legal system.

Hakamada, now 89 years old, spent more than four decades in prison, most of it on death row, before he was finally released last year when the court ruled him innocent in a retrial. His case proves that the legal system is capable of making grave mistakes that can cost innocent individuals their lives.

The Fate of Prisoners in Malaysia: A Reality That Cannot Be Ignored

In Malaysia, we cannot turn a blind eye to the possibility of similar cases. Many individuals may have been wrongfully convicted, spending years behind bars for crimes they did not commit. In such cases, justice delayed is justice denied.

As a Chief Editor and activist, I am deeply saddened and frustrated by this reality. That is why I urge non-governmental organizations (NGOs) like Fight for the Human Rights and lawyers advocating for human rights to step forward and assist those who have fallen victim to flaws in the justice system.

Justice should not only favor those who can afford expensive legal fees. Every individual has the right to a fair and just defense.

If you or your family members have experienced a situation similar to Iwao Hakamada’s case, we are ready to assist. You can reach out to us via our official email: ottrangk@gmail.com or contact the mentioned organizations for proper assistance and legal support.

Do not let injustice continue! Your voice matters in the fight for justice for all.
