Telekom Malaysia (TM) has reiterated its strict zero-tolerance policy on misconduct following the recovery of 242 stolen telecommunication cables in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, valued at approximately RM100,000. Eight suspects have been arrested, including two TM employees and six subcontractors, in connection with the case.
Dato G Kumaar Aamaan, the chief editor of Ottrangknews, has taken a firm stand on the matter, urging the immediate establishment of a special task force to address the growing issue of cable theft. He emphasized that the task force should focus on uncovering the syndicate masterminds and their potential links to scrap metal yard operators, who might be facilitating the trade of stolen cables.
“Cable theft is not just a financial loss; it disrupts critical services, endangers public safety, and undermines national security. A dedicated task force is necessary to dismantle these syndicates and ensure those responsible face the full force of the law,” said Dato G Kumaar Aamaan.
He commended the Penang police for their swift action, which led to the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of two lorries, a pickup truck, and a van bearing TM logos. However, he warned that this incident highlights a systemic problem requiring a more comprehensive approach.
TM Stands Firm on Integrity and Accountability
TM has expressed its full commitment to assisting authorities in their investigations, reaffirming its dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability. The company assured that strict action would be taken against any individuals or contractors proven guilty of misconduct.
“Cable theft is a serious offense that affects the community and threatens the reliability of our nation’s digital infrastructure. We will continue to collaborate closely with the authorities to prevent such incidents,” TM stated.
Strengthening Infrastructure Protection
Dato G Kumaar Aamaan also highlighted the need for proactive measures, including:
Tightening regulations for scrap metal yards.
Enhancing security protocols for telecommunication infrastructure.
Increasing penalties for cable theft offenders.
“This is a national issue that requires collective action. TM must work hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies, and public vigilance is crucial in reporting suspicious activities. Together, we can protect Malaysia’s digital backbone and ensure uninterrupted services for all Malaysians,” he added.
Ottrangknews’ Commitment to Justice and Transparency
As a staunch advocate for justice and transparency, Dato G Kumaar Aamaan assured the public that Ottrangknews would continue to shine a light on critical issues affecting the nation, holding all relevant parties accountable.
This call for a special task force underscores the urgency of a united approach to eradicating cable theft, safeguarding Malaysia’s connectivity, and ensuring that such crimes do not go unpunished.
