KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) — The 2025 TNB Malaysian Junior Hockey League (TNB MJHL) has attracted a record number of 63 teams for the Division 1 and 2 categories.
Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Competitions Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Anil Sandhu said this number surpassed last year’s record-setting 49-team turnout for TNB MJHL, which was started in 2016.
“There are a few reasons behind this surge. Firstly, there may be growing interest among parents, and secondly, young players and state teams now want to showcase their new talent. It’s also because of development at the state level.
“This is good for our hockey scene, as we’ll be able to see more new players in action,” he told a press conference at the MHC headquarters here today.
A total of 213 matches will be played throughout the tournament, which will run from July 7 to Aug 23.
In Division 1, 10 boys’ teams will battle for the championship, with matches to be held at seven venues including the Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium in Terengganu and the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium in Kuantan, beginning July 19.
In Division 2, 30 boys’ teams have been divided into two zones — the Central Zone, which will compete at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, and the Northern Zone at the Bertam Hockey Stadium in Penang, starting July 23.
As for the girls’ category, 23 teams will be competing, with all matches scheduled to take place at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil starting this Monday.
