According to Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit, the driver, Nurul Nadiah, apparently lapsed into "microsleep" while driving, causing the car to veer into the opposite lane and collide with an oncoming Perodua Myvi coming from Bukit Katil towards Duyong.

The 2-year-old boy, Muhammad Alexander, succumbed to severe head injuries while receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital at around 4 pm today. The driver of the Perodua Axia suffered a broken right leg, while her three other children sustained broken right legs and wounds to their legs and faces. The driver of the Perodua Myvi and his 45-year-old brother, who was the sole passenger, each had injuries to their stomach and chest. All the injured victims are currently being treated at Melaka Hospital.
