WASHINGTON – In a surprise announcement, President Donald Trump declared that the US would take control of the Gaza Strip, redevelop it, and resettle Palestinians elsewhere. Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump described Gaza as a “demolition site” and proposed turning it into an economic hub.
Trump’s plan, which contradicts decades of US policy, faces major legal and diplomatic challenges. Palestinian leaders and human rights groups condemned the idea, calling it forced displacement. Meanwhile, Netanyahu praised Trump for his “bold thinking.”
Trump did not provide specifics on how the US would assume control but insisted it would bring stability to the region.
