KUALA LUMPUR, 6 FEBRUARY 2025 – Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad grabbed public attention today after posting a message filled with disappointment on the social media platform X.com. In a post titled “SAD”, he expressed his sorrow over the current state of Malay politics.
In his statement, Tun Mahathir lamented how a party that once fought for independence and resisted British control has now willingly placed itself under another party for the sake of power.
Tun Mahathir’s Strong Message
One of his most striking remarks was his criticism of Malay leaders who, according to him, prioritize their own positions over the future of the nation and the next generation.
“What Malay representatives prioritize is their own position. What happens to the Malay land, what happens to their descendants does not matter. What matters is self-interest,” he wrote.
He also expressed disappointment over the lack of effort in defending Malay rights and the refusal of leaders to listen to the people’s concerns.
“This is not a people’s representative. This is a representative of greed.”
A Sharp Criticism of the Current Leadership?
Political analysts view this statement as a direct rebuke of the Malay leadership in the current government. Some believe it is aimed at UMNO leaders who are now allied with Pakatan Harapan, while others see it as a broader critique of the fractured state of Malay politics.
Public reactions to his post have been mixed. Some support Tun Mahathir’s views, agreeing that Malay leaders today are too willing to compromise at the expense of their own community. Others, however, dismiss his remarks as outdated rhetoric used for political gain.
Regardless, Tun Mahathir’s statement is expected to spark intense debate among political leaders and the Malay community itself.
Is this a sign that Tun Mahathir is planning a new political move?
