KOTA BHARU, 10 April – The issue of increasing rape cases involving young girls in Kelantan is becoming increasingly alarming. The Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, confirmed that these cases not only involve young girls seeking boys for intimate relationships but also include incest cases within families. In many of the reported cases, the children involved were found to be pregnant, with the pregnancy duration ranging from one to seven months.
This situation highlights the escalating moral and social problems in the state, with the misuse of smartphones, lack of religious education, and peer influence being key contributing factors. Additionally, drug abuse is also acknowledged as one of the primary causes of the occurring rape cases.
If this issue continues without decisive action, Kelantan is at risk of further moral and social collapse. Therefore, stricter preventive measures need to be implemented by the PAS government in the state.
Suggested Steps to be Taken by the PAS Government of Kelantan:
1. Enhanced Moral and Religious Education: Schools and local authorities should work together to ensure that religious and moral education is given more rigorously, especially among children and teenagers.
2. Monitoring Technology Usage: The government should introduce more awareness campaigns about the negative effects of uncontrolled smartphone use, and encourage parents to monitor their children’s online activities.
3. Collaboration with Local Authorities: The state government needs to strengthen cooperation with the police, social agencies, and local communities to monitor the situation of teenagers and children, and take firm action against individuals involved in illegal activities.
4. Drug Abuse Prevention Programs: Take serious steps to address the rising issue of drug abuse, which is one of the primary causes of rape cases and other crimes.
5. Support for Victims: Provide more assistance centers for rape and violence victims, offering psychological support to those trapped in cycles of violence.
The PAS government of Kelantan must act swiftly to ensure that the social and moral well-being of the state’s citizens is not compromised. Strong and integrated actions are needed to prevent this troubling trend from continuing.
