Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Uncle Roger Sets New Guinness World Record in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian-born comedian Nigel Ng, also known as Uncle Roger, set a new Guinness World Record yesterday by gathering the largest number of people dressed as him at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The event, which took place at his restaurant, Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger, saw over 388 people dress up as the famous online personality to break the record.
The event was highly anticipated, with fans traveling from far and wide, including Austria, to be part of the record-breaking attempt. To qualify, each participant was required to dress in a plain orange polo shirt, black pants, jeans, or shorts, and a black phone case attached to their hip. The crowd went wild when Uncle Roger showed up in person and led them in shouting his iconic phrase, "Fuiyoh!"
Adhi Baskara, 27, and his wife Sabilah Margirizki, 26, were thrilled to be part of the event. "He provides unfiltered comedy, and that’s what we love about him," Adhi said, sharing that they became instant fans after watching one of Uncle Roger’s videos criticizing a BBC food presenter.
Other attendees, including father-son duo James and Hayley Chan, and friends Rex Hoh and Oscar Liew, were also excited to be part of the gathering. "I think he’s authentically Malaysian, just like ‘Phua Chu Kang’ is to Singapore," said James, 56. "I hope that there will be more Malaysian talents who can make it internationally," he added.
During the event, Uncle Roger also attempted to set two new Guinness World Records: "Most eggs cracked with one hand in 30 seconds" and "Most fried rice tossed and caught in a ladle in 30 seconds". For the former, the record holder is American Christopher Sanders from Pennsylvania, who cracked 18 eggs on April 29, 2022. The latter has not been attempted before.
Will Uncle Roger succeed in setting these two new records? The results will be announced on his social media channels on September 29.
