Rahmah Cookie Initiative: Spreading Joy and Support During Festive Season

A Mother’s Compassion, A Business Born

In Ipoh, a 64-year-old entrepreneur, Khairunni Ahmad Zabidi, has taken the initiative to make festive cookies more accessible to all, regardless of their financial situation. Her compassionate encounter with a customer who couldn’t afford kuih raya for their child sparked the idea to sell cookies at an affordable price.

A Variety of Cookies for All

Khairunni and her team, consisting of her older sister, Suhairah Ahmad Zabidi, and daughter, Nohidayu Abdullah, now run a stall in the parking lot of a Shell petrol station on Jalan Raja Ashman, selling over 100 types of festive cookies. The cookies are made daily from scratch based on demand, ensuring freshness and quality.

Affordable Prices, Abundant Options

Each container holds between 18 and 20 pieces, and Khairunni prioritizes ensuring everyone can enjoy the festive season, even if it means earning only a small profit. "Children love cookies, but with prices ranging from RM28 to RM35 per jar, some parents just can’t afford them. So, I decided to sell biskut raya for as low as RM6, making it possible for customers with RM50 to buy up to eight containers," she said.

Supporting Single Mothers and a Business

Khairunni’s Rahmah cookie initiative has received a strong response, with over 7,500 containers sold since the middle of this month. The cookie varieties include Mazola, pineapple tarts, almond London, Nestum and oat, and the savoury rempeyek. By selling her cookies, Khairunni not only provides a source of income for 15 single mothers who help her with the production but also helps cover the medical expenses of her daughter, Nohidayu, who has health issues.

A Business Built on Quality and Taste

With over 20 years of experience in making kuih raya, Khairunni prioritizes taste and quality. "Some assume our products are of lower quality because of the low price, but customers say they are comparable to premium cookies," she said. "In today’s economy, people are trying to save, so I help by offering affordable prices and, in return, they support my business."

Customer Testimonials

"This is my second year purchasing kuih raya from Khairunni’s stall. The cookies are delicious, and the prices are reasonable, with plenty of options," said a returning customer, Hasbol Mustafa.

Conclusion

Khairunni’s Rahmah cookie initiative is a testament to the power of compassion and entrepreneurship. By providing affordable and high-quality cookies, she has created a business that not only sustains her livelihood but also supports single mothers and those in need. As the festive season approaches, Khairunni’s cookies are a must-try for those looking to spread joy and support local businesses.
